Viora hosts a Night of Beauty for the Women of Safe Harbor Crisis Center

With International Women’s Day in March, Viora hosted a Night of Beauty and offer free treatments to those women taking shelter at the Safe Harbor Crisis Center. This activity let us give back to the women who truly touch our hearts and to share our message of love; that they are not alone, and that they too, are beautiful. Safe Harbor Crisis Center is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide shelter, supportive services and advocacy to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, as well as education, awareness and resources to their communities.

“It was very rewarding to give treatments to such thankful sweet ladies” – says Denise (Viora Inc.).

Over 40% of homicides in Utah over the last ten years were domestic violence related. Domestic violence affects everyone. I also learned that nationally, 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence, but in Utah that number is 1 in 3 according to the most recent figures available from the Utah Office on Domestic and Sexual Violence.’ ”

Safe Harbor Crisis Center opened their doors to women and their children in 1997 and provides free services such as Emergency Protective Shelter; Domestic Violence Outreach Services; Domestic Violence Diversity Program; Children’s Services; 24-Hour Crisis Response; Domestic Violence Housing; Sexual Assault Services; Protective Order Assistance; and Community Outreach and Education; the Economic Empowerment Program and the Lethality Assessment Protocol. The programs and services at Safe Harbor Crisis Center serve women, children and men impacted by sexual and domestic violence victimization and are essential to help survivors lead a life free of violence.

Knowing that there is a safe place for these women to go and promoting awareness truly saves lives.

Some facts about domestic violence:

  • 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence and in Utah that number is 1 in 3.
  • Women who experience intimate partner violence are 80% more likely to have a stroke and 70% more likely to have heart disease.
  • Children exposed to violence are more likely to fail or have difficulty in school, have behavioral issues, suffer from anxiety or depression, engage in criminal behavior, or abuse drugs or alcohol.
  • Since 2000, domestic violence related homicides accounted for at least 42% of all adult homicides in Utah. In 2015, that percentage climbed to account for 47% of homicides.

In total, in the last fiscal year Safe Harbor provided the following:

  • 438 adult domestic violence survivors and child witnesses found safety in our protective emergency shelter for almost 16,000 shelter nights.
  • Safe Harbor Crisis Center provided 3,176 casework hours to survivors and their children.
  • The organization assisted 2,617 clients through their ten programs.
  • 8,811 crisis calls were answered between their domestic violence, protective order, and sexual assault crisis lines.
  • The 24-hour Domestic Violence Crisis Response Team responded to 65 crisis calls.

What an amazing organization! We are truly grateful for this experience and for the shelter and love Safe Harbor provides. Awareness is key, and knowing that there is a safe place to turn makes all the difference.

Operator Spotlight: Lisa Garcia – Blondies the Beauty Shop and Spa

Recently a couple of our US trainers spent 2 days in Denver, Colorado to visit a highly recommended and extremely busy beauty shop and spa.

Lisa Garcia (age 31), a Laser Specialist and Manager at Blondies the Beauty Shop and Spa (Denver CO), has owned her Reaction for about 5 months now.

We asked Lisa about her experience with Reaction and she said “I love it! I love doing the fat reduction treatments, the results are incredible and Viora’s team is so helpful and always there if you have a question, not to mention the machine changed my life and my body!”

In the 5 months that Lisa has owned Reaction, she has been booked back to back with Reaction treatments for body contouring and skin tightening, but she has also been able to treat herself. We asked Lisa to share her best client testimonial and to our surprise, it is her very own:

“Since I started doing the Reaction treatments I would say the best testimonial is myself. I have a six year old son and got really bad stretch marks and had fat I just couldn’t get rid of. Reaction utilizes Viora’s proprietary technology CORE (Channeling Optimized Radiofrequency Energy) to stimulate collagen, elastin and fibroblasts while targeting the fat cell at the same time. Unlike Cryolipolysis therapy which can only be used for fat reduction by freezing the fat cell thus causing death (apoptosis), the Radiofrequency implemented by Viora works to heat the tissue, shrink the fat cells, tighten the skin, increase diffusion of oxygen released by red blood cells, increase metabolism and does not leave the skin lumpy and bumpy. 5 Tips for Choosing the Right Cellulite Treatment

With so many aesthetic devices in the industry, it becomes confusing and difficult to research which device will offer the best treatment to address your aesthetic concerns. Over 90% of women over the age of 30 will develop or have developed some form of cellulite.

Cellulite is common due to numerous reasons; it could be genetics, hormonal changes, poor lymphatic drainage, age, lifestyle, smoking, alcohol intake and stress to name a few contributing factors. But what exactly are the root causes of cellulite, and what is the best way to treat it and reduce its appearance?

1. Understanding Cellulite

Cellulite is caused by enlarged fat cells, tight connective tissue bands, and a weakened dermal layer. Fat cells in the subcutaneous layer are arranged in chambers surrounded by bands of connective tissue called septae (collagen). As water is retained, fat cells are enlarged causing fat chambers to expand against the non-flexible connective tissue. Women more are prone to cellulite than men as there is comparably less collagen in the skin, a higher percentage of body fat, and more biological responses to hormones. Also, women have a different subcutaneous layer structure with a U-shaped area as opposed to men who’s structure is criss-cross in nature.

Aging and weight gain cause fat cells to expand and start to fill up these U-shaped areas, pushing on the connective tissue. The septae is initially flexible but changes as a result of holding in fat cells without breaking or moving them into other areas causing the septae hardens, and fat cells begin to rise to the surface dermal layers.

This process results in the dermal layer expanding and molding itself to fat cells, while the hardened and tighter connective tissue pulls down on the dermal layer. The end result is a dimpled appearance.

Additional factors that contribute to the formation and appearance of cellulite include:

  • Impairment of lymphatic drainage leading to the accumulation of lymphatic fluid and waste resulting in edema or swelling
  • Reduced metabolism rate due to low venous flow and blood microcirculation which ultimately deprives the cells of oxygen and nutrients (low enzymatic activity)
  • Increase in rigid and inflexible collagen fibers due to deterioration of collagen quality and the formation of cross- links between the three collagen’s chains

2. Collagen And It’s Important Role

Collagen is a major structural protein in the body and skin that is the principal constituent of white fibrous connective tissue. It makes up about 25 percent of the total amount of proteins in the body and is found in in tendons, skin, bone, cartilage, and ligaments. Collagen is relatively inelastic and not flexible but does have a high tensile strength and the ability to resist forces of stretching. The quantity and quality of your skin’s collagen have a significant role in your skin’s appearance, some even referring to collagen as the glue that holds the body together.

3. Narrowing Down A Solution

There are a lot of ‘solutions’ that are talked about when looking to enhance one’s appearance and reduce cellulite. It’s crucial to understand that the root cause of cellulite cannot be effectively treated with creams, lotions, pills or even diet.  This is because cellulite is a structural problem, and not a fat problem.

Finding a treatment that addresses all of the concerns associated with cellulite at the same time, and the information you receive can often be skewed and difficult to comprehend. To assist in the search for accurate and valuable information, Viora has created 3 important questions you should seek answers to when selecting the right treatment type:

  1. Does the treatment target the subcutaneous or fatty layer of the skin?
  2. Does this treatment target the dermal layers to stimulate collagen for tightening?
    Note: Some treatments will only target one or 2 depth levels under the skin and often misses treating symptoms in deeper layers.
  3. Does the treatment promote or stimulate the lymphatic system?

4. Technology Matters

CORE technology developed by Viora’s in-house R&D department offers a robust and clinically proven solution for cellulite reduction treatments and is a standout performer in today’s fiercely competitive medical aesthetic industry. CORE (Channeling Optimized RF Energy) has 3 distinct modes, each individually targeting a chosen skin depth with an incredibly high degree of accuracy plus a multi-channel mode that targets all skin depths simultaneously.

CORE technology targets the subcutaneous/fatty layer and the dermal layers to stimulate collagen. Each treatment mode (I-IV) applies a preset frequency, each targeting a different tissue depth, from superficial layers of the skin to the hypodermis or subcutaneous/fat tissue layer.

RF energy deployed to the dermis and subcutaneous layers produces heat to increase diffusivity of oxygen released by blood cells, increases cell metabolism, the breakdown of rigid collagen cross-links, increases skin elasticity and improves skin texture.

Mechanical stretch is caused by electrical pulses released from the RF electrodes that activate fibroblasts located in the dermis in order to induce gene expression of the Type I and III collagen (most abundant in skin), stimulate fibroblasts to produce collagen and improve secretion and enhance the elasticity of the collagen.

Integrated Marketing for Better Results

What does Integrated Marketing mean? It’s very simple – you have numerous channels of marketing, through which you’re sending out your clinic’s message. Ideally, you want to be sure that all of your channels (Social media accounts, web site, print advertising, direct marketing, PR, etc.) are all supporting the same message.

For example, you have a new procedure you want to promote? That’s great! How are you letting your customers know about this great treatment that they all need to try?

Ideally you would use more than one marketing channel.

Sending out an email is a great idea, but if it’s not linking to a landing page, supporting the email, with more explanation, you might be losing an opportunity to give more information to your customers.

Opting for a full-page ad in the local paper is also an option that is bound to bring lots of inquiries, but many people might first go to your Facebook page – if you’re not including posts about the product or treatment you just advertised, a disconnect starts to form. What did you really want to promote?

If you’ve just posted on Instagram about being the first clinic in your town to own a certain device, a customer who walks in to your clinic may not be sure she’s in the right place without a poster or roll-up to reinforce that original message.

To avoid this confusion, make sure that all your marketing channels support, in some way or another, the messages you want to promote. Integrated marketing ensures that you’re sending the same message to all your customers, no matter where they see that message.

PINK BASH – A Party with a Purpose

How are you building community ties? In addition to raising awareness for your clinic, reaching potential patients, this kind of activity gives you the opportunity to support a cause that is important to you, your staff and clients.

pink bash 5Spa Longevita Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine, based in Orlando, FL participated in this year’s PINK BASH. An annual party hosted by the Orlando Sentinel and others, the PINK BASH supports Breast Cancer Awareness and benefits Central Florida’s Susan G. Komen for the Cure. Hundreds of visitors had the chance to partake in the many activities, enjoying music and cocktails, while breast cancer survivor models strutted the runway. Dozens of sponsors participated to raise money and awareness for this important mission.

pink bash 4Spa Longevita’s sponsorship gave Dr. Brooke Higgins the opportunity to meet many attendees, while sharing in the ultimate purpose of the PINK BASH. With a booth set up on the grounds of the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, Dr. Brooke and her staff were able to book consultations for the offerings at Spa Longevita Acupuncture & Herbal Medicine.

These services include the body and facial contouring and cellulite reduction treatments performed by Viora’s Reaction. Using Viora’s marketing materials, such as the Before & After flip chart, brochures, etc., Dr. Brooke and her staff collected the names of those interested in learning more on how Viora’s treatments can help them. By acquiring their emails, Spa Longevita will be following up with everyone that visited their booth for the opportunity to make an appointment for a complimentary consultation.

Ten Tips to Increase Your Clinic’s Revenue


While a major part of your business is to attract customers, probably sales and marketing techniques were never given the focus it deserved when you were in school. Here are Viora’s top 10 marketing tips to help you bring in more business, increasing your revenue.

  1. Use Social Media!
    Today the consumption of social media is at an all-time high. Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter and more help you reach out to patients in your local area, and even to patients who are visiting your area, whether it’s for a summer vacation, winter break or for the holidays. Use advertising to reach your clients on the platform you know most of their attention lies.
  2. Reach out to your local radio and news stations, even local print journals
    Is there a host or anchor that would like to be treated in exchange for some air time? Find out what packages they offer, whether in studio appearances or filming in your office. Include a twist! Treat the Physician on air; clients love to see that the Physician feels comfortable and safe getting the treatments that are offered to the patients.
  3. Explore starting a “Patient Retention Program
    We know that ‘word of mouth’ can make or break us. Incentivize your satisfied patients to bring in 1-3 friends that purchase a package and award your patients accordingly. Providing superior services to one patient generates results, as they will tell their family and friends all about the treatment.
  4. Start a friendly competition between your staff
    Your staff would love to receive the treatments they are offering but never have time. Create a fun competition; the staff member who sells the most receives a complimentary spa day for all of their hard work. When your staff experiences the treatments and can testify to their own results, they become a walking billboard, and your best advocate.
  5. Initiate a “Patient Loyalty Program”Many offices run this program and it works wonders. Create a point system that leads to a free treatment; Give points for a positive review on Yelp or RealSelf. Add more points for referrals, and even give them points just for being a loyal member. How about their birthday? Patients love to be taken care of and what better gift, than a free treatment?! You can also add points when your patients like or share your page and post on social media.
  6. Always have your business cards handy
    It might seem a small point, but it’s important, especially when attending trade shows, social functions, community events, charities or even when you’re out for a day of shopping and running around town. Being friendly and extending your networks will increase your target audience and expand your network. Also hand a couple of your business cards to your friends and family members. They can help advertise to their friends and family as well. Encourage your staff to do the same!
  7. Offer a complimentary service to their original treatment
    Are your patients in the office for injections? A massage or facial? Maybe you run a practice alongside your med spa? Use the classic “upselling” technique and show them your other available treatments while they’re a captive audience. Ask if they would like to have a test (possibly treat under the eye or nasolabial lines, something short and sweet). Explain what the treatments do and show them before and after pictures, to get them excited! By ‘planting the seed’ they will continue to think about the treatment when they leave your office and this could eventually result in a sold package!
  8. Create a calendar of special events and get your patients Involved
    Are you attending a local charity? Do you have a special holiday party that your office throws every year? Better yet, do you have email or home addresses of your patients to send formal invitations to your special events? You can plan a ‘New You’ New Year’s event, or Spring into Summer campaign. Offer Mother’s Day specials or a Father’s Day deal (we know men like the treatments just as much as the women), or something for Brides, and their bridal parties (and their Grooms!). All of these events will catch the attention of your patients and keep them involved in your office.
  9. Educate your patients
    Most of today’s aesthetic patients are very savvy, however with new technologies and so many devices, it is important to educate your patients on the solutions you offer in your office. This will help your patients feel safe and confident in your practice, as well as in the operators treating them.
  10. Offer complimentary consultations
    New patients love to meet staff members and the physician to see if the office is right for them. A lot of patients are turned off when they hear of a consultation fee. Allow the patients to come in, see what treatments your office offers and give them the opportunity to meet you, to make them feel welcome.
